About your session: To put you at ease and allow you to experience the greatest benefits from your sessions:

  • Communicate with your therapist before the session. Make sure to tell them about any areas of the body where you are experiencing pain, tension, or  have had an injury. Also be sure to mention any medical conditions. This information will be on your initial visit intake form and can be updated as time progresses.
  • Undress to the extent you feel comfortable. You may receive your massage unclothed, clothed, or while wearing underwear or even a swimsuit. Massage therapy is typically performed with the client unclothed, but you may keep on whatever clothing makes you comfortable. You will be completely covered at all times with flannel sheets, towels, and a blanket, except for the area being worked.
  • Drink water. Massage helps the body naturally eliminate waste materials and drinking extra water helps this process. It also helps to replenish any water lost due to the increases in circulation massage provides.
  • Schedule regular sessions. The effects of massage are cumulative, so the more often a person gets massage, the better he or she will feel and the more quickly one's body will respond. For most people, it is recommended to receive a massage once per week if possible, at the least once per month.
  • Allow yourself time after your massage to relax and take a moment for yourself . This will prolong the effects of your massage.
